This is how a nation's
leaders launch
their war—a speck
of war, a particle
within the always
war that hums
the tune of stock returns
and market flows, of game
boy dreams of Super
Hornet jets and Reaper
Drones. The hum
of blood in the pilot's ear,
having circled the heart
and humid lung, bright
with oxygen to feed the brain
that aims and times, remains
unheard, unnamed—another
tool for bringing forth
the promised RAIN
OF HELL.
From flames
rise chains of smoke
-thin children, some only
infants, nearly
transparent, endlessly
listening. Still. They drift
from every human
dark, drawn
by the call
of the lullabies
that their own
blood once sang
